Circa 11 Acres of Land off Little Houghton Allocated for Employment Purposes.
The allocated employment site comprises part of the former Houghton Main colliery which following closure of the colliery, was surface mined, before restoration and compaction. The land is bounded by the A6195 Coalfields Link Road to the west with the ASOS warehouse to the north and the village of Little Houghton located to the east and south of the site. At present there is only one access point to the site via Middlecliffe Lane through the village of Little Houghton.
Located adjacent to Little Houghton, which is situated on the edge of the Dearne Valley 5 miles to the east of Barnsley and 8 miles north of Junction 36 of the M1. The site is accessed through the village from the new Coalfield link road, the A6195, which links the Dearne Valley Parkway in the south with Grimethorpe in the north.
The site is allocated for employment purposes in the existing Unitary Development Plan and Barnsley’s emerging new Local Plan. Any planning application for employment generating land uses will therefore be in accordance with current and emerging planning policy.
