The property comprises a detached farmhouse building, most recently used as an officer's mess by the Ministry of Defence. The building would benefit from refurbishment given that it has been unoccupied for a number of years, however it would appear to be structurally intact. We understand there is a leak in the roof and due to lack of use the property is dilapidated internally.
There is opportunity to redevelop the property, potentially into a family home, subject to the appropriate planning consents being obtained. The MoD have continued to pay Council Tax on the property suggesting it has retained classification as a residential property, interested parties should make their own enquiries in this regard.
The property is located approximately 8 miles to the north of Carlisle, close to the border between England and Scotland. The Scottish town of Gretna is located to the west and the English town, Longtown to the East. Gretna offers the Gretna Green Outlet Village, home to a number of outlet retailers including Nike and Polo Ralph Lauren. The River Esk is also located nearby.
